The book follows Chet and Bernie as they investigate the murder of a wealthy businessman. The businessman, Richard Lancing, was found dead in his home, and the police are baffled. Chet and Bernie decide to take on the case, and they soon find themselves up against a cast of quirky characters, including Lancing's eccentric wife, his greedy mistress, and his loyal but dim-witted assistant.
As Chet and Bernie dig deeper, they uncover a web of secrets and lies. They learn that Lancing was involved in a number of shady business dealings, and that he had a lot of enemies. The two detectives soon realize that the murder was more complicated than they first thought, and that they are in over their heads.
Despite the danger, Chet and Bernie refuse to give up. They are determined to find Lancing's killer, and to bring justice to his family. With their wits and determination, they eventually solve the case and unmask the killer.
Characters
- Chet Madison: A private investigator and the narrator of the story. Chet is a former police officer who was fired for his unorthodox methods. He is a skilled detective, but he is also impulsive and often gets into trouble.
- Bernie Little: Chet's best friend and partner. Bernie is a small, quiet man who is often underestimated. He is a brilliant detective, and he is always there to help Chet out of trouble.
- Richard Lancing: A wealthy businessman who is found dead in his home. Lancing was a powerful man with a lot of enemies.
- Emily Lancing: Richard Lancing's eccentric wife. Emily is a beautiful woman who is often seen as superficial. However, she is also a strong and independent woman who is fiercely loyal to her husband.
- Susan Grant: Richard Lancing's mistress. Susan is a greedy woman who is only interested in money. She is the prime suspect in Richard's murder.
- George Wilson: Richard Lancing's loyal but dim-witted assistant. George is a kind and gentle man who is always willing to help others. However, he is also naive and easily manipulated.
Themes
Tender Is the Bite explores a number of themes, including:
- The power of money: The book shows how money can corrupt people and drive them to commit terrible crimes.
- The importance of loyalty: The book shows how loyalty can be a powerful force for good, but it can also be used for evil.
- The search for justice: The book shows how important it is to seek justice for those who have been wronged.
Tender Is the Bite is a well-written and engaging mystery that will keep you guessing until the very end. The characters are well-developed and the plot is suspenseful. I highly recommend this book to fans of the Chet and Bernie Mystery series, and to anyone who enjoys a good mystery.
