Early Life and Education
Jada was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. As a child, she spent many hours exploring the woods behind her home and developing a love of nature. She went on to study environmental science at Spelman College and the University of Michigan. After graduating, she worked as a park ranger at the Everglades National Park and as an environmental educator for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.
Writing and Speaking
In 2014, Jada published her first book, Fly High!: The Story of Bessie Coleman. The book tells the story of Bessie Coleman, the first African American woman to earn a pilot's license. Jada's book has been praised for its inspiring message and its beautiful illustrations. She has since written several other books for children, including Sing a Song: How Lift Every Voice and Sing Inspired the Civil Rights Movement and Can I Play Too?: The Story of Jackie Robinson.
In addition to her writing, Jada is also a sought-after speaker. She has given talks at schools, libraries, and community centers across the country. Her talks are always engaging and informative, and she leaves her audiences with a renewed appreciation for the natural world.
Work with the National Audubon Society
Jada is currently the director of the National Audubon Society's new initiative, Audubon for All.
